Real Wedding – Robin + Tommy’s Camp Lucy Wedding

November 16th, 2011

For their wedding, Robin and Tommy were certain about three things – the venue (Camp Lucy), the dress (a gorgeous gown from Enzoani), and their photographer (Kim Maguire). Working within a tight budget, they designed a simply elegant celebration.

About Robin + Tommy’s wedding –
Robin and Tommy met 7 years ago at their favorite Austin restaurant, Trudy’s. Their love of salsa, Mexican Martinis, and the connection that they were both educators sparked an instant match. Once they were finally engaged, Robin and Tommy immediately went to work on their wedding plans. The pair would pay for their wedding on their own and had to consider what type of event they could afford on an educator’s budget.

Three things were certain. The place, the dress, and the photographer. Camp Lucy was Robin’s dream site for a wedding. The venue was beautiful and was located in Dripping Springs where Robin teaches – a small connection that was important to the bride. It just so happened that Camp Lucy was available on the date that they had in mind. Robin and Tommy knew they would get married in the French colonial chapel, and have their reception in the open pavilion that overlooks the beautiful hill country. Camp Lucy was booked, the day was set, and the rest would soon fall into place. Robin’s dress, an Enzoani ivory mermaid style lace gown, was the first one that she tried on, and within 45 minutes the purchase was made. Robin was quick to make sure that her photographer, Kim Maguire, was not booked on their wedding date. Kim had photographed a few of Robin’s friends’ weddings, and Robin knew that Kim would do the best job with capturing their special day.

With the important things in place, the rest would be simple. Truly simple. The idea of simple and elegant was delivered right from the start with the invitations. The couple worked together to make their wedding invitations and programs on their computers. This proved to be a big money saver! For the reception, Robin created a decorative touch to the vases with thick ivory ribbon, a thin turquoise cord in the middle of the ribbon, and three pearls adorning the center for the round tables centerpieces. She borrowed vases from friends, bought cheap canning jars, a variety of shaped mirrors from a craft store, curly willow, and lots of candles. Her good friend, Maureen, volunteered her amazing floral services for the day. Robin’s favorite flowers were all in season which made the flowers affordable. White Hydrangeas, light pink Roses, and light pink Peonies were all purchased at a local grocery store. Robin added her grandmother’s blue topaz brooch to her all white bouquet to add a special touch of her favorite color. Turquoise was also incorporated with the color of the ties, and in the Matron of Honor’s jewelry. Robin bought “Mr. and Mrs.” signs on Etsy for $10 to hang on the chairs where the newlyweds would eat dinner. The bride’s mother made coconut candy for favors for the guests to enjoy. Robin and Tommy showed a bit of their personalities with the groom’s cake. The groom, a basketball coach, thought that having fondant characters of the bride and groom playing basketball on the cake would offer a good laugh to their guests. The night definitely proved to be a night of smiles from start to finish.

The budget friendly wedding was a result of planning, creativity, and teamwork. Simply wonderful was achieved because of the amazing friends and family that all volunteered their time to make this day beyond perfect for the bride and groom.

Real Wedding – Brittany + Will’s Rustic Texas Wedding

November 14th, 2011

Brittany and Will’s wedding combined Will’s cowboy background with Brittany’s rustic-chic style. The result? An adorable celebration full of our favorite rustic decor – burlap, mason jars, cowboy boots, and Brittany’s own wood-engravings. From Maria Leinen Photography.

From Brittany, the bride –
Will and I first met in college and had very different backgrounds. I was a city girl and Will was a cowboy. After becoming friends we started dating about a year later. Soon after we moved to different colleges and were long distance for more than two years! The day Will proposed was the happiest day of my life .. until the wedding! After a six-month engagement and lots of planning we are now happily married. Getting to spend each day with the love of your life cannot get much better!

In designing our wedding, I really wanted to incorporate Will’s cowboy side with my own personal rustic touch. The venue we choose really lent itself to the rustic feeling we were looking for and inspired a lot of our decorating ideas. I loved being so involved in the planning and decorating. It made the day so much more rewarding!

I loved watching everything unfold so perfectly! All the hard work I had put into planning turned out great thanks to the help of our friends, family, and vendors. Of course the wedding and reception were moments I will never forget and definitely my favorite part of the day!

From the bride –
How did you two meet?
Ariel and I grew up minutes down the road from each other in Raleigh, NC, but didn’t meet until we both went to college two hours away at UNC Wilmington! We met a mutual friend’s house and hit it off immediately!

What was your design inspiration?
We wanted to get married outdoors and we found this great historic home, called the Timberlake House. We wanted it to be very natural, rustic, and romantic. My husband’s sister married us which was very special and made it more personable. We wrote the entire wedding ceremony ourselves, including our vows, and also included a “tree ceremony” to go with our nature theme. We didn’t have any colors per se, again just kept it very natural. My bridesmaids wore a dark charcoal grey dress and the bridal party flowers were whites, creams, pale greens, and different textures (berries, wheat, etc). My mother in law helped design the ceremony flowers, which included sunflowers to go with the yellow house.

What was your favorite part about the planning process?
I really enjoyed all the little details that went into the process. I had my friend make wooden signs, picking out the bird cake toppers, making a homemade tree stump cake stand, the ring bearer’s “nest,” and also having my husband’s home brewed beers served were all neat touches. My mom’s band sang the Beatles “Til there was you” as I walked down the aisle (with both of my parents) and my dad’s band also played for a while at the wedding as well, which a lot of the guests enjoyed!

What was the most memorable moment of the day?
The most memorable part of the day was of course seeing Ariel waiting for me at the end of the aisle, but we also had a rainbow pop up into the sky during photos which was SO cool (especially considering we had a rainbow the night before at the rehearsal dinner after a downpour!)

Real Wedding – Kristen + Shae’s Washington Barn Wedding

November 7th, 2011

Kristen and Shae planned their wedding from 3,000 miles away! Luckily, they gave themselves plenty of time to budget for their wedding and determine exactly what they wanted for their special day. Kristen spent many childhood days playing in these fields, making it an extra special venue for her wedding day! Thanks to Abbey Hepner for submitting such a sweet collection of photos.

From Kristen – The inspiration for our wedding was mostly the location. I love the rustic look and have a lot of that look in my house, but once we decided on the location, that was really when everything fell into place. The wedding site was my Grandparents’ house on my father’s side. They knew I wanted an outdoor wedding and offered to have it at their home. I was ecstatic, because it was perfect. I worked very hard on planning the wedding and making sure everything went with the theme. A couple of my bridesmaids and I made the ringbearer pillows, the flower girl pails, the favors, and the programs. My cousin owns a print shop, Parkland Quickprint, so she did all the printing for the wedding. I really wanted a classic wedding, with a rustic feel to it. I wanted the wedding party to be dressed up, but not too formal. That was the inspiration for the grey tuxes. I loved how cute the ring bearers looked!
My favorite moment of the day was the ceremony itself. Shae and I had been together for five years and we were both so ready for that moment! There was a feeling of true happiness running through me and I could not stop smiling. After the ceremony, everything seemed to go by really fast. I also, of course, loved dancing with Shae and my father. These are special moments I will treasure through Abbey’s wonderful pictures for the rest of my life.
If I were to give advice to planning brides, I would say start early and keep pictures of the types of things you like and the colors you like. I started with ideas of things I liked, but they didn’t really work with my theme or my budget so I changed things frequently, allowing my wedding to evolve into something beyond anything I could have hoped for. Another thing I think really helped me was that we set our date for a year and a half away in order to budget for the wedding. Once we decided on the location, I immediately contacted my photographer and paid my deposit to ensure that I got her. Then as little things happened we paid for them, right away. We didn’t want to wait till the end to pay for services or things we needed, because we just wanted it taken care of. We were able to bargain a little because of it, too.
We absolutely loved our wedding and the pictures we have from our special day are perfect thanks to Abbey!

From photographer Jessica Monnich – Can I just say, WOW! This was such a beautiful wedding so well planned by 36th street events!! I literally turned to my assistant in GLEE that I would get to photograph such a beautiful wedding! The floral arrangements by Posey Floral and Event Design were STUNNING! All the rentals and linens were from Marquee Event Group, so perfect for this wedding. The wedding was held at the BEAUTIFUL Texas Federation of Women Club’s Mansion. Then the stellar team at ILIOS Lighting provided all the amazing lighting for the evening. Ally got her dress from Serendipity Bridal here in Austin Texas. Oh and the cake, TO DIE FOR! Literally – I am gluten intolerant but this cake looked tooooo good to pass up and it tasted even more amazing than it looked (which was VERY hard to do being that it was so beautiful) it was created by Simon Lee Bakery. THEN it gets – better Ally and Clay brought in a late night snack, Roppolo’s Pizza, seriously my favorite pizza in the world! Again I couldn’t pass it up, I am surprised I didn’t break out into hives the next day! They also had a phenomenal DJ, Byrne Rock.
